Since we don’t know when the paperwork will get processed (we were told it takes anywhere between 4-12 weeks), we decided to enroll Zachary in the 2nd grade at Mauka Lani Elementary School.
Schools in Hawaii start so early. Not only do they start 3 weeks earlier than Washington State schools, the tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. Zachary is used to waking up, taking his time for breakfast, having some time to play before heading to school at 9:05 a.m. Granted, Mauka Lani Elementary School is only a 10 minute walk away, but that means we have to leave at 7:30, which means we have to finish breakfast by 7:15, which means we have to wake up at…6:30….gulp. It’s been a challenge, but Zachary is adjusting to his new school.
